(Government Camp, OR, July 20, 2011) – Dogs and their owners are invited to enjoy a fun run/walk at the 2nd annual Dog Day at the Mt. Hood Adventure Park Skibowl on Sunday, September 18 with proceeds benefiting the Oregon Guide Dogs for the Blind.

“Those of us who love the outdoors typically love dogs, so we created this event to introduce dog lovers to hiking at Skibowl while at the same time supporting a great local organization,” said Kirk Hanna, owner/operator of Skibowl.

Mt Hood Skibowl Dog Day EventLocated on nearly 1,000 acres, the Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl provides access to over 40 miles of trails within the Mt. Hood National Forest.

Three routes–easy, moderate, and extreme– will be marked for hiking/running on Dog Day. After the walks, participants will be able to enjoy a Dog-Friendly Beer Garden in the base area and participate in pet trick contests for prizes. Lexidog Boutique and Social Club of Portland, along with other pet supply and outdoor vendors will also be on site.

Three routes will be marked, suitable for most people and their pets:

Run, Walk, Hike, Mt Hood Skibowl Dog Day EventOne-mile, one- way, easy/moderate course. On the Low Road trail linking Skibowl West to Skibowl East and the Multorpor Lodge.  (Shuttle bus service will be provided back to Skibowl West).  This is an ideal walk for families with younger children.

Two- mile, round-trip moderate course.  On the Summit and Lake Road Trails to Skibowl East and back to Skibowl West.

Seven -mile round-trip extreme course.  Starting at Skibowl West and going up and around Multorpor Mountain on the Optimator Trail, returning to Skibowl West via the Summit East and Low Road.

“We had such a great time last year and are sure that even more dog lovers will come out again for this fun event to support our organization,” said Michele Davis, Community Services Officer, Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Dog Day Event Registration Mt Hood Adventure Park at SkibowlEstablished in 1942, Guide Dogs for the Blind provides guide dogs and training free-of-charge to nearly 350 blind and visually- impaired people annually and supports a community of more than 2,000 graduates. The campus is located at 32901 S.E. Kelso Road in Boring, with its national office in San Rafael, CA.

1:30 p.m. Best Pet Trick Contests
