Interpretive Trails

Take a leisurely hike through the Interpretive Trails of the park. Explore nature at its best in the center of the Mt. Hood National Forest. Start in the base area and explore the lower elevations of the park by viewing different wildflowers such as the Indian paintbrush, lupine, bear grass and cow parsnip. You’ll surely notice the enormous trees of Douglas fir and western hemlocks. Interpretive signs will help locate the different species as well as give descriptions of each.

As you continue on through the trails you may encounter a variety of wildlife including red tail hawks, pileated woodpecker, gray jay, dark eyed junco, chipmunks, Douglas squirrel and black tail deer to name a few. The elusive bobcat, black bear and Rocky Mountain Elk also inhabit this area of the Cascade mountain range, though they are rarely seen around areas of human population.

You’ll also find favorites such as the wild huckleberry, pacific rhododendron, mountain hemlock, loucewart and bright pink/magenta rock pentstemon.

Guided hiking tours are also available with Mt. Hood Adventure.
