Northwest Cup Downhill Mountain Bike Race #5 at Mt. Hood Skibowl

Downhill mountain bike racing returns this weekend to the Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl with round five of the Northwest Cup / U.S. Grand Prix.  The fun starts this Friday with race training and registration.

The top cash prizes include a $500 prize for 1st place men, and $250 for 1st place women, plus a raffle of great prizes for all.  The musical styling of Josh Wuerth, the front-man for the band VIASOL , will showcase his talents on Saturday, July 13th from noon to 4:00pm on the Outback Grill stage at the Skibowl West base area.   Food and drink specials will be available all weekend.

Spectators are welcome to watch as PRO/CAT I contestants race from the peak of Skibowl at 5,100 feet, down the Cannonball run, reaching speeds up to 50 mph, then through the technical Woods trail, finishing at the Skibowl West base area.  Non racers may enjoy the over 20 attractions at the Adventure Park during their weekend stay.

Friday race training is from 2:00pm to 6:00pm for all categories.  Training Saturday is from 8:00am to 12:00pm for CAT II/III and 2:00pm to 6:00pm for PRO/CAT I.  Sunday training is from 8:00am to 9:00am, with the race starting at 10:00am.  Awards will follow the last PRO rider to finish the course and will be presented at the Outback Grill.  Racers can register online and get full details at  There will be a showing of mountain bike videos Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 6:00pm at the Ratskeller Bar and Pizzeria, along with great food and drink specials.  The Ratskeller is located in the heart of Government Camp.

One more race is scheduled for this summer, the Mountain Bike downhill finals race, the weekend of September 21, 2013.

The weather is looking absolutely beautiful for the weekend with highs in the 70's and no rain in sight!  The racing was fast and furious last time and the racers are chomping at the bit to fight for top bragging rights.
