Long time Skibowl volunteer Lucie Svrcinova wins two gold medals in Synchronized Swimming!

Lucie Svrcinova, a local Skibowl volunteer and associate, won a solo gold medal in the 40-49 age category, and a duet gold medal with swimming partner Sarah Beth Pfohman in the 30-39 year age category for Synchronized Swimming at the 2014 FINA World Masters Championship held in Montreal Canada.

The FINA (the Fédération Internationale de Natation) World Masters Championships is the Federation’s biggest competition in terms of participation, for the reason that it welcomes, every two years, swimmers, divers and water polo players aged 25 to more than 100 years old from all corners of the world.  The vibrant Masters movement actively promotes fitness, friendship, understanding and competition through its five disciplines (FINA is the world governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming).

Ms. Svrcinova is the head coach for Synchronized Swimming at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, OR.  She has held the position since 2013 and was the assistant coach for 8 years prior to that.  The swimming program she coaches has up to 70 participants, from age 6 to 80 plus.  She is originally from the Czech Republic, starting her swimming career at the age of seven and swimming for the Czech Olympic team at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.  She spends much of her non-swimming time at Skibowl with her longtime partner Petr Kakes, who is an Olympian in his own right, competing in the Speed Skiing event at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.  Kakes operates the Olympic Skibowl Ski School, Hurricane Racing bike shop and the Historic Mid-Mountain Warming Hut.  Lucie often volunteers at the many Mountain Bike Races that Skibowl hosts over the summer.

Way to go Lucie!
