It was hot, dry, dusty and loose. The Mt Hood Skibowl DH track did not disappoint. What it did is scare the living crap outta 90% of the racing field. Numerous flats, numerous crashes resulting in everything from scabs to dislocations. I can't count how many wheelsets were worked on, lots of frazzled nerves on Sunday morning. Freehub Mag/Transition team rider Trevor Parson was heard moaning in the toilets as the sun rose on Mt Hood. Typical race mornings are spent aimlessly walking around, getting over the nerves, riding your dual crown in circles while telling yourself "you can do this!' I love going to bike races, I love seeing all my friends pinned and pushing their limits. What I hate about racing is Sunday mornings, and the anxiety this weekend reached a whole new level for a majority, myself included. But thanks to numerous friends' support we all made our start times.

Mornings start off with Pro seeding. But during the hour hour designated warm up time several pro racers suffered a mechanical or straight up knocked themselves out. As in the case of Nema rider Anthony Marino, he drove a long way in hopes of getting a good result at a track most 'judge' as relatively easy until they inspect it. Then the 'holy crap' factor is truly unveiled. ArmaEnergy/Evil Bicycles team was in full effect with Mikey Sylvestri leading the boys all weekend long down a track he has famously held a course record on for multiple years now - no one has bested his 3:42. So during his warmup he suffers a flat with 4 other fellow pro racers. As they scramble down the track to repair, Mikey makes a 'Babe Ruth' call and tells me "I'm gonna just run early in finals and win it,' he states calmly. And with that, seeding gets underway. No surprises when Victor Smith takes the qualifying hotseat into the finals.

ArmaEnergy/Evil's Mikey Sylvestri is the only person in the world to say Mt Hood Skibowl "is easy," en route to another dominating win.

NW Cup# 5 / MTB Grand Prix Pro Mens's Podium

FreehubMag/Transition pro Britney White again takes advantage of a small women's field and hammers down the Mt Hood Ski Bowl track to another win! Diety pro Michelle Benson gave her best attack while debuting pro was Go Huck Yourself Dot Com's Adrian Hopkins who spent most of the weekend fixing her TR450 (that once belonged to Anthony Leodarnuzzi who dominated Cat 1 and is now Pro) onto her first podium. Congrats!

NW Cup #5 / MTB Grand Prix Pro Women's Podium

In Jr Expert we had kinda of a heart breaker of a story to share. Transtition Racing's young gun Kole Wetherell is the man to beat. Last race he had a huge off and tore a huge hole in his hand on the famous 'log stepdown,' receiving ten stitches and a terrible final time. Well, a week of healing he returns to the scene of the crime and again goes down on the 'log stepdown' and shatters his clavicle. That story alone gives everyone who has to execute the 'log stepdown' serious creeps. Well, it did for me. I couldn't help but think as I was descending over the drop "Oh God, Kole crashed HERE!' Get well soon (AGAIN) Kole! Which leaves a door wide open again for Nikolas Clark (Dirt Corp) and Corey Craig (SingleTrackMinds Cyclery) to battle it out. Big Nikolas again takes his racing to 'pro' levels and seeds under 4 minutes, beating 70% of the pros! Canfield Brothers Bjorn Mejlaender has a terrible seeding but manages a great final for 3rd, The 'Mini' Bulldog Corey Craig earns a respectable 2nd step and Dirt Corp/Trek/TLD 'up and comer' Nikolas Clarke takes an impressive class win and places 6th overall earning a pro check. Congrats Nik!
