Dozens of teams are expected to ski or snowboard for 24-hours, fueled by the memories of loved ones and cancers survivors, during the Hope on the Slopes vertical challenge set for March 8-9 at Mt. Hood Skibowl. “The spirit of the participants and those who come to support them is overwhelming and we are proud to host this event,” said Kirk Hanna, owner/operator of Mt. Hood Skibowl.
Part competition and part party, last year, over 200 participants traveled more than 3 million vertical feet down the Upper and Lower Bowl in an effort to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
A highlight of the event will be the Ssaturday evening Torchlight Parade, where skiers travel information down the darkened Lower Bowl run carrying torches that illuminate the night. At the bottom of the run, the torches are placed around the glowing word “HOPE” that lights up a snow bunker. After a few silent moments of reflection, the vertical challenge is back on.
A complete run from the Upper Bowl to the Lower Bowl is 1,500 vertical feet. Prizes were awarded to the individual and teams that raised the most money as well as those who traveled the most vertical feet. Its an exhilarating event. NEW this year will be a category for the little kids under 10.
