News & Updates at Mt. Hood Skibowl for the winter ‘12/13 season
Friday November 2nd 2012Mt. Hood Skibowl is integrating a wide variety of cultural aspects with their improvements to the resort for the 2012/2013 winter season.
At Skibowl East, the resort is renovating the historic Multorpor Lodge complete with historic photographs, new bar & grill and expanded outdoor party deck. The renovation will keep the resort’s boutique alpine resort feel while integrating in the culture of the historic ski jump hill dating back to 1927 when the ski area was established.
The improvements in the east base area continue outside the lodge where the innovative Cosmic Tubing crave caught on last year once the sun goes down at the Snow Tube & Adventure Park. New lights and an improved audio system will bring bigger and brighter light shows for an enhanced ‘cosmic’ party atmosphere on the tubing slopes. Multorpor Lodge’s new outdoor party deck will also be integrated into the scene with the occasional live DJ to get the crowds pumped up!
The adventure keeps improving this year at Skibowl East as the summer Zip Lines will now operate through the winter. That’s right, 800 feet of Zip Lines will offer adventurers the chance to zip over the top of the entire Snow Tube & Adventure Park. Additional improvements are also being made to Frosty’s Playland with new and exciting attractions for kids and families to enjoy while at the Snow Tube & Adventure Park.
At Skibowl West, the new Outback Grill has been constructed in the base area with a heated patio and fire pit. Now your favorite food and drink is available outside so you can fuel up without gearing down. Next to the Outback Grill, the A-frame lodge is being converted into the Mt. Hood Tribal Heritage Center bringing the culture of the Warm Springs Tribes back to their native lands. New displays, exhibits and information about the Warm Springs Tribes and the history of their native lands will be displayed in the lodge.
Out on the slopes, “America’s Largest Night Ski Area” just keeps growing as we have added five new light poles increasing the lighting at the bottom of the Upper Bowl and top section of the Lower Bowl. This year will be our second season with our new high-tech snowmaking system. Last year’s system has been improved upon and will offer five SMI Puma fan guns, one SMI Super Pole Cat and one SMI Viking lance snowmaker. This system will allow us to open earlier and stay open later which means more skiing and riding for our guests. Last year, the Upper Bowl retained skiable snow through May evidenced by the filming of the Poor Boyz Productions 2012 winter release of “WE A Collection of Individuals.” The cover boasts a 35 foot tall custom built jump and landing located at the base of Skibowl’s Upper Bowl and promoted as the film’s signature feature.
Also new this year will be online ticket sales. An upgrade of our e-commerce software will allow guests to purchase their tickets and season passes at home for convenience while reducing lines at the ski area. In today’s fast-paced world, this is a major convenience for our customers.
