What's new at Skibowl for the 2013-14 season!

Mt. Hood has received its first snowfall and you can feel the excitment in the air!  Winter is coming fast, now is the time to purchase your season pass online, wax the boards and do your pray-for-snow ritual!

With the new snowfall fresh on the brain, we thought it would be a good time to update you on the improvement projects Skibowl has been working on all summer.  Projects include annual work of lift preventive maintenance, sprucing up the lodges and staff hiring/training.  There are also several larger projects that will have a positive impact on your experience at the resort:

New Grooming Machine

A Prinoth Bison X state of the art snow groomer joins the ever growing Skibowl fleet.  This new snow cat is specially designed to groom terrain parks and will allow Skibowl to maintain its high standard of grooming.  The new machine is also environmentally friendly as it gets better MPG than older models.

The Powder Alliance

Winter explorers unite!  The greatest powder stashes in the West have joined forces with the Mt. Hood Fusion Pass to create the Powder Alliance™. The best pass on Mt. Hood is back and better than ever, uniting the best of both Skibowl and Timberline Lodge Ski Area for the most ski terrain on Mt. Hood.  This season for no additional cost, Fusion Pass holders become members of the Powder Alliance.  Powder Alliance resort members of any age receive three (3) FREE days at all other participating areas plus special offers on lodging, rentals, buddy tickets, and more.  The 12 resorts boast 123 lifts, 806 trails, 26,782 vertical feet and 3,919” of cumulative annual snowfall.  For more info visit www.powderalliance.com

Fiber Optic Connection

The internet service to the Skibowl west base area has been upgraded with the addition of high speed fiber optic lines, laying the foundation for future expansion to guest use.  There will be a wifi hotspot in the Wiwnu Wash Tribal Cultural Center so resort guests will be able to stay connected to their favorite social media outlets and work – if so desired.  Improved ticket scanning and increased speed for sales point processing will benefit guests as well.

New Conveyor Lift

The parking lot rope tow is being replaced by a state of the art, 220 foot long conveyor lift that introduces new technology to conveyor lifts.  New skiers and riders will have a much better experience learning the sport with the new lift.

Expanded Snow Tube and Adventure Park and Cosmic Tubing

100 new, four person tubes have been added to the tubing flotilla, increasing hill capacity by a third.  A second adventure lane is also being added to the hill.  The huge hit of the winter, Cosmic Tubing is back and better than ever with more lights and lasers, more DJ nights and the remodeled Multorpor Lodge.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

This fall Skibowl takes the lead in environmental responsibility and will become the first resort on Mt. Hood to install a public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station.  The station provides a trickle charge (240 Volt) and a level III quick charge (480 Volt) allowing two separate electric vehicles to charge simultaneously.  The quick charge takes approximately 20-30 minutes for a charge, while the trickle charge takes 3-6 hours depending on the vehicle.  The station was built with a federal grant to build the ‘electric highway’ in Oregon, and will be open 24/7.  Please check www.skibowl.com for when the station goes online.

Extensive Brush Cutting, Slope Maintenance and Improved Snowmaking

The ski slopes received an extensive ‘buzz cut’ this summer.  A special brush cutting tractor trimmed all the lower slopes, while our crew’s hand-cut the upper steeper runs.  Loose rocks were removed, which along with the improved snowmaking system, will allow Skibowl to open on the least amount of snow of any area on Mt. Hood.  Improvements were also made to the Log Road which will help with opening the Outback terrain earlier in the season.

Online Sales

An upgrade of our e-commerce software will allow guests to pre-purchase ski and tubing tickets from the comfort of their home, reducing ticket lines at the ski area.  The ability to purchase tubing tickets and fill out liability forms online will improve the guest experience as well.

Upgraded First Aid Facility

We hope you never have to visit our first aid facility, but if for any reason you do, the facility is getting a complete facelift.  New flooring, restrooms, lighting, cabinets and bedding will all be installed for our guests comfort and efficient use by our professional patrol.

Mt. Hood Skibowl offers "the most night skiing terrain in North America" according to Ski Magazine, with 65 day runs and 34 night lit runs.  Less than an hour east of Portland, Skibowl is known for some of the best terrain on Mt. Hood with a 4 minute ride to pure vertical on the Upper Bowl and expertly groomed runs.    Families and non-skiers can also enjoy winter fun at the Skibowl Snow Tube and Adventure Park featuring a conveyor lift to groomed tube hills, Frosty's Playland, mini z snowmobiles, zip lines and Cosmic Tubing!

See you on the slopes!
